Nnamdi Kanu Forces Justice Binta Nyako to Step Down from Trial: In a dramatic turn of events, Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), forced Justice Binta Nyako to recuse herself from his trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja. The incident unfolded during Tuesday’s court session, where Kanu expressed his loss of confidence in the court’s ability to deliver justice.

During the session, Kanu interrupted his lawyer, Alloy Ejimakor, while he was arguing for a suspension of the trial. Kanu ordered him to sit down, taking over the proceedings himself. He directly addressed Justice Nyako, citing her failure to follow the Supreme Court’s directives. “I ask you to recuse yourself because you did not abide by the decision of the Supreme Court,” Kanu stated.

Despite attempts by the prosecution’s lawyer, Mr. Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, to persuade the court to continue, Kanu was adamant. He even presented a copy of the Supreme Court judgment, arguing that the actions of the trial court had compromised the judge’s impartiality. “I have no confidence in this court anymore,” Kanu repeated, adding that his trial was inconsistent with constitutional provisions.

Faced with Kanu’s accusations, Justice Nyako expressed frustration but ultimately agreed to step down. “I hereby recuse myself and remit the case file back to the Chief Judge,” she announced, signaling the end of her involvement in the case. Her decision followed Kanu’s persistent claims that her court had lost its legitimacy.

Kanu’s demand that Justice Nyako step down was rooted in the belief that her handling of the case undermined his right to a fair trial, a concern he voiced several times during the session. As the case now awaits reassignment, the future of his trial remains uncertain.
