AE-FUNAI Cancels Final-Year Exams After Campus Disruption

The Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike (AE-FUNAI) has cancelled final-year examinations conducted on Friday, October 4, 2024, due to disruptions caused by some students. The announcement came from the university’s Registrar, T. Ifeanyi Igwe, in a memo dated October 7, 2024, addressing both staff and students.

The Vice-Chancellor of AE-FUNAI raised concerns after an incident on October 4 disrupted the institution’s peaceful operations. Final-year students reportedly violated the university’s examination codes of conduct during their last scheduled exams, which ran from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. This led the university to immediately cancel the exams for affected courses.

According to the memo, management expressed deep dissatisfaction with the behavior of the students involved. The university emphasized the importance of maintaining strict adherence to conduct rules during examinations, noting that the disruption was unacceptable. The exams cancelled were from various departments and programs.

Following the cancellation of the final-year exams, the university directed that students affected by the disruption would need to rewrite their exams. A new date for the exams will be announced in due time, as communicated by the Registrar.

Management stressed that the rewrite process would come with additional logistical responsibilities for the affected students. Specifically, the memo stated that these students would bear the cost of printing new question papers and answer scripts for their rewritten exams. This financial burden adds to the consequences faced by students for the disruption.

The university warned that strict compliance with the directive is required by both students and staff. Management stressed that the incident, which led to the cancellation of final-year exams, was a significant violation of the university’s regulations. The rewriting of the exams serves as a consequence for the students involved, highlighting AE-FUNAI’s commitment to upholding its standards and academic integrity.
