Ebonyi State to Launch a Football Club for NNFL Participation
Ebonyi State is set to establish a football club, aiming to boost sports development and ensure its participation in the Nigerian National Football League (NNFL). Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru announced this decision following an executive council meeting on October 8, 2024.
The initiative aligns with the state’s plan to improve sports activities. Establishing the new football club will provide a platform for local talents and make full use of sports infrastructure across the state.
“We believe this will not only develop sporting activities in the state but also promote physical and mental development,” the statement said. The administration expects the club to inspire unity, foster social entertainment, and create economic opportunities for the people.
With the approval of the club’s purchase, Ebonyi State aims to compete in the NNFL and position itself as a hub for sports. Officials hope the football club will boost community spirit, attract sports fans, and enhance tourism.
The launch of the football club also reflects a commitment to long-term growth in sports. It is a significant step towards nurturing talent, strengthening local teams, and promoting regional unity through competitive football. Ebonyi State is set to make sports a vital part of its economy and social structure through this project.
